The OCD cycle consists of four main components: obsessions, anxiety, compulsions, and temporary relief. Obsessions are intrusive, unwanted thoughts, images, or urges that cause significant distress and/or anxiety. In an attempt to reduce this discomfort, a person engages in compulsions, which are repetitive behaviors or mental acts. These compulsions may provide temporary relief but ultimately reinforce the obsessions, creating a repetitive and self-perpetuating cycle.

Exposure Response Prevention Therapy (ERP)
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is a highly effective, evidence-based therapy for individuals struggling with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and related anxiety disorders. ERP helps individuals gradually face their fears (exposures) while resisting the urge to engage in compulsive behaviors or avoidance (response prevention). Over time, this process reduces anxiety, increases tolerance for uncertainty, and helps individuals reclaim control over their thoughts and actions.
